POCKET = PLACE OF REST

THE PASSAGES

Psalm 4

I’m a runner. I love running especially in the morning. I like the sound of the wind rushing past my ears. I like the sound of my own heartbeat which seems to be louder when I run and that drowns out any stress or active thoughts in my head. I come to a standstill inside even though my body is moving. Through running, I’m resting. The urge to run come stronger when problems arise. But I can’t always run. This is when I remember David’s prayer in Psalm 4:1, “Answer me when I call to you…hear my prayer.” God is my resting place.

We all need rest. God created us with that needs in mind. This is why He created a Sabbath day for us. (Genesis 2:2-3, Mark 2:27-28).

Kangaroo joeys mature slowly. Some of the joeys would still come back to their mother’s pouch even though they have had their first birthday. Kangaroos travel to forage and sometimes the joeys are too tired to hop for a long distance. They would hitch a ride in their mother’s pocket and rest in there.

A Sabbath-rest is a gift from God to mankind. (Hebrews 4:9-11) Jesus is calling us to step into His pocket to find rest (Matthew 11:28).

THE PRAYERS
Throughout this week, pray that you will find rest in Jesus. Pray that you will trust in Him fully and submit all your worries into His opening arms. Journal all your worries down as your prayer and see how Jesus answer it! Make sure you take a Sabbath rest. Set aside that day to spend time with God and leave everything else behind.
