POCKET = PLACE OF NOURISHMENT

THE PASSAGES

John 4:1-26

This story of the Samaritan woman at the well touches my heart. This Samaritan woman is someone who does not fit in. In the past, the women came to the well in the morning or in the evening to avoid blazing sun. They came to the well to do their chores, catch up on gossips and bond together. This Samaritan woman came to the well when there were no other women around. She is one of those girls who avoid eye contact, eat lunch by herself and tried to be invisible in the crowd. She is the one who does not feel her own worth.

But Jesus saw her. In fact, He sought her out and went after her. He offered her the nourishment of a lifetime (John 4:14). The kind of nourishment that will never leave her thirsted again. And there — in His pocket, she found her nourishment.

Marsupial is not the only type of mammal that has a pouch. Monotreme is another kind of mammal that has a pouch to rear its young. There are only echidna and platypus in the currently living monotreme family. The pouch of a mother echidna is a pocket full of nourishment. Once inside the pocket, the little puggle (baby echidna) nuzzles its face to the pocket wall. The milk oozes from the wall to nourish the tiny puggle. It takes several months for the puggle to grow and develop. While in there, it drinks of its mother’s milk. That’s the only nourishment it will need until it is ready to emerge out of the pocket to face the world.

I was thirsty and I was seeking. God found me and invited me into His pocket of nourishment. As I drink from His well daily, I know that the living water flowing from Him will never leave me thirsted again.

THE PRAYERS
Throughout this week, pray that you will come to Him daily. Pray that through His words, you may be nourished and that you may not thirst again.
