The PRophet After God’s own heart

Through the eyes of Micah (Age 9)

This character study is done by my youngest, Micah. Micah has a brother called Samuel and when I asked him to do a character study, he said, “I would like to study Samuel!” What a great choice, for Samuel was a pivotal point in Israel’s history. He was the last judge of Israel before they requested a king. Samuel’s life is a testimony of how faithful and godly parents can truly influence the life of a child even when they are not able to be with the child while he/she is growing up. The story of Hannah and Samuel is my motivation to pray for my children without ceasing. He was the inspiration to name our eldest, Samuel. After all, my Samuel was also “asked of God”. Read on to hear the story of Samuel through Micah’s eyes.

Q&A with Micah
Describe the prophet samuel

Samuel was loyal, obedient and he chose to do the right thing even when others around him was doing the wrong thing.

Where was Samuel born and how important was his birth to his mum?

Samuel was born in the house of Elkanah in the nation of Israel. Samuel’s birth was very important to Hannah, his mum, because she had been praying for a son for a long time.

How would you feel if you had to leave your parents to live elsewhere like Samuel?

I would be afraid but I would still go if that’s what God wants me to do.

What did you learn from Samuel’s story?

He was an important boy and God had chosen him to be the next prophet of Israel. He was truthful and he bravely told priest Eli that his sons would die because they did the wrong thing. I learned that I should listen to God and choose to do the right thing and be honest and not afraid to tell the truth.

Which part of Samuel’s life story that you like the most and why?

I like when God called Samuel and he answered God’s call because rarely would God speak directly to people.

What would you ask Samuel when you see him in heaven?

I would ask him how he felt when he first heard God speaking directly to him.

We are almost at the end of our character study series. Micah was my youngest writer who participated in this study and I was blessed to hear his sincere comments on the character of prophet Samuel. I was especially impressed to learn that he would trust in God and step out of his comfort zone, if God calls him to do something. I can truly learn from my own child.

I pray that you all are blessed by the story of Samuel. And I pray that we all will be able to answer God’s call without hesitation like him.

“Speak Lord, for your servant hears.” 1 Samuel 3:1

Blessings,
El

  1. Thank you Micah for sharing your insight of Micah. Samuel is one my favourite bible character. He is the only bible character, I may be wrong, who God spoke directly at such a young age. Your attitude or response I should say to obey and follow God’s request, to leave your parents, if only He does is really amaze me! I am sure you have a prayerful parents ❤️
