Title: The Miracle of the Widow’s Son

Elijah Resuscitating the Son of the Widow of Sarepta by Louis Hersent (1822)
Once upon a time, in a faraway village, there lived a kind widow and her young son. The widow loved her son with all her heart, and they lived a simple but happy life together. Their village was nestled amidst beautiful hills and blooming flowers, and the people were known for their faith in God.
One day, a wise prophet named Elijah came to the village. He was a man chosen by God to deliver messages and perform miracles. The widow heard of Elijah’s arrival and went to meet him. She found him sitting by a brook, his voice carrying the wisdom of the heavens.
With a gentle smile, Elijah blessed the widow and assured her that God had heard her prayers. The widow, with tears in her eyes, shared her worries. “My dear prophet,” she said, “I have no food left for my son and myself. We are down to our last handful of flour and a tiny bit of oil. Soon we will have nothing left to eat.”
Elijah, filled with compassion, assured the widow that God would provide. He told her to have faith and trust in the Lord’s plan. He asked her to bring him a small cake made from the remaining flour and oil, and promised her that the Lord would bless her with abundance.
The widow trusted Elijah’s words, and despite her worries, she baked a small cake for him. As she handed the cake to the prophet, she felt a mixture of fear and hope in her heart. Elijah prayed over the cake, and the widow watched in awe as it multiplied in her hands.
“Now go,” said Elijah, his voice filled with warmth. “Feed your son and yourself, for God has blessed you abundantly.”
With joy in her heart, the widow rushed back home. When she reached her small cottage, she called out to her son. But as she entered the room, her joy turned to sorrow. Her son lay motionless on the bed, not breathing, not moving.
Heartbroken and filled with grief, the widow fell to her knees and cried out, “Oh Lord, why have you taken my son? I thought you had blessed us!”
In that moment, the prophet Elijah appeared at her door. He entered the room and saw the widow’s anguish. With compassion in his eyes, he took the lifeless body of the widow’s son into his arms and carried him to his own bed.
Elijah closed his eyes and prayed earnestly, calling upon the Lord to restore life to the boy. He lay upon the boy three times and cried out to God, “Please, Lord, let this child’s life return to him.”
As Elijah finished his prayer, a miracle occurred before their eyes. The boy’s eyes fluttered open, and his body began to breathe again. The widow and Elijah rejoiced, thanking God for His mercy and love.
The widow’s son was alive once more, a testament to the power of faith and the miracles that God could perform. From that day forward, the widow and her son praised the Lord and shared their miraculous story with everyone they met, spreading hope and faith throughout their village.
And so, dear children, we learn from this story that even in our darkest moments, God’s love and power can bring us miracles. Like the widow and her son, let us have faith, trust in God, and believe that miracles can happen in our lives too.
The end.
